“All communities deserve to have access to healthy locally grown food, nutrition, the arts, music, and nature. We are working to cultivate Maui from the ground up. Transforming our schools, hospitals, prisons, homeless shelters…forgotten lands… into places of empowerment, health and healing, intergenerational sharing, soil regeneration, mentorship, abundance.”

on Tuesday, I went to the Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center to visit the garden. this thriving sanctuary was once a barren drainage pit. now it is for connecting and community. it’s full of love. I had seen the photographs of the land before, and it was incredible to have my feet in the soil…to witness the growth. the kids proudly asked me, “is this your first time to the garden? what do you think?” they had been there through the transormation, this was their favorite place.

the keiki ran off the bus and into the garden, giving Rebekah and Melissa big hugs. there was lemonade and sugarcane pressing, seed balls, painting, green juice tasting, and more. i will be returning to photograph more of the beauty that is happening. stay tuned.
