get your camera out, set your alarm, and map yourself to the brooklyn bridge and bushwick. these are two of the best places to photograph in brooklyn! whether you’re going on a solo mission, have a shoot, or want to get creative with a friend, make sure you hit these two spots.

brooklyn bridge: a surreal experience. this bridge was completed in 1883 and is a historical landmark. enjoy some of the best views of the city. I like starting from the brooklyn side and walking towards manhattan. don’t be caught there with big crowds and heaps of tourists — check what time sunrise is, and aim to be there for the moment. the lighting is really beautiful at sunrise, and you will enjoy playing with the light while you’re shooting. remember, coffee is your friend.

bushwick: after you’ve walked across the bridge, head to bushwick. this neighborhood in brooklyn has a rich history that you can feel as you explore its streets. in the last few years, beautiful murals cover what was once industrial buildings. local and international artists connect, collaborate, and create. two or three new walls can go up within a week, so there is always something new to discover. the street art makes amazing backgrounds for photographs and are sure to inspire you as well.

ana, a native new yorker and global gypsy, was my muse for a day of exploring the bridge and bushwick with my digital and film camera (loving kodak ektar film). check out bohmeian compass, her travel blog.
